Three Pinterest Outfit Recreations

When you're in a style rut, Pinterest is one of the best resources for inspiration. I turn to it often, and it's also a great way of finding new ways to wear things you've owned for a while, which can make an old piece suddenly feel brand new. And if you find an inspiring outfit that you can recreate using the clothes you already own, it can feel like you've just done some shopping in your own closet.

Here are three recent Pinterest outfit finds that I came across recently and recreated on my Instagram page.

Black and white in the summer

Depending on where you live and how intensely hot it might get, wearing black in the summer might sound like a total nightmare and just asking for heat stroke. Luckily, the Bay Area doesn't get too crazy in the summer, so wearing black is still an option. But how do you keep it looking and feeling fresh for the season?

I found inspiration in this pin, and loved the crisp, summery take on the classic black and white combo.

No jewelry, understated accessories, perfect for warm weather, but with some sort of top layer for when the evening gets a little chilly.

I was able to recreate this look with my Madewell Lycee Blazer, black tee, and Cali Demi-Boot Jeans, a pair of flat black sandals from Target, and my Topshop woven purse. I pulled it together with my black sunglasses, Mejuri Dome pinky ring, and a pair of vintage earrings.

Part of what makes recreating outfits fun is putting your own spin on it. While the inspiration outfit didn't include any jewelry, for example, I added some super minimal pieces to my take, mainly because I feel naked without some sort of piece of jewelry on. But it's also fun to take some creative liberties, so you're not just doing exactly what someone else has done.

Bodysuits and oversized blazers

Bodysuits, the one-and-done clothing piece I recommend having in your wardrobe. Long sleeved, short sleeved, turtleneck, camisole, there are a ton of styles for nearly every preference, but the outfit that inspired me called for the camisole style layered under an oversized blazer. (Credit for the original photo goes to Instagrammer @sabinasocol.)

For my own take on this, I started with a camisole-top bodysuit from a brand called gaze that I found at Marshall's, then added a light neutral colored blazer I thrifted from Lucca Couture. A pair of Abercrombie high-rise, ankle length straight jeans and slingback, square-toed Anne Klein flats finished the look.

Again, I made this look my own with some simple accessories: Madewell Chunky Medium Hoops and Delicate Glider Bangle, and a vintage, thrifted woven bag. Sabina Socol is wearing the Demy Crop Flare from Citizens of Humanity; at the time I recreated this look, I didn't have those jeans, but ironically enough I thrifted a brand new pair of them earlier this week so I could try an even more faithful version of this look with those jeans.

Relaxed but put together

When temperatures rise, it can be hard to find the motivation to look sharp when you're just going to be overheated the whole time (and just sweat through your outfit). But with the right materials, like cool cotton, and summer staple shoes like sandals and huaraches, looking good and keeping cool don't have to be mutually exclusive.

Enter this white and tan inspiration that got me pairing pieces I hadn't yet thought to bring together.

For this look I turned to my trusty Madewell Courier Button-Back shirt and Mid-Rise Slim Wide-Leg Chinos from Old Navy, and finished it with a pair of thrifted huaraches and that vintage woven bag again. The woman in the inspiration photo is wearing minimal jewelry, so I went with a simple brass ring from Marisa Mason and the Madewell Chunky Mini Hoop Earrings.

Falling into a fashion rut is totally normal; it's the age old problem of looking at all of your clothes and thinking that you have nothing to wear. But turning to sources of inspiration, whether it be Pinterest or your favorite style influencers, can really help break you out of your funk and teach you new ways to wear the things you already own.

I didn't go out and buy any of these pieces in order to recreate these looks. By just using what I had, I was able to put together new combinations of my existing clothing, while also putting my own spin on these outfits with the addition of accessories. Find your inspiration and get to creating new looks!
